Camp Legacy is a free one-day grief camp for children who have been impacted by the gift of organ, tissue and eye donation. Camp is open to kids ages of 6 – 17 and must have completed kindergarten. Camp Legacy also offers an adult program with facilitated grief work, connection with other adults who have lost a loved one and are supporting children through grief, as well as time for reflection and self-care.
Volunteer Job Descriptions
Setup: Be behind the scenes and help IDN's team set up Camp Legacy headquarters! Duties include: unloading vehicles, setting up tents/tables/chairs, hanging signs, unloading boxes, etc. With your help, you'll see the event come to life.
Volunteer Check-In: Check-in volunteers as they arrive, provide any necessary materials for their shift, inform them of where to go.
Greeter: Help welcome and guide campers and families on where to enter, check-in, restrooms, therapy dogs, etc.
Registration: Welcome campers and families to Camp Legacy, manage the registration process, ensuring all required paperwork is collected, address any questions or concerns.
Full-Time Counselor (Available to IDN staff only, unless approached by IDN to assist): As a Camp Counselor, you will be a trusted companion to a small group of campers, providing support, comfort, and guidance throughout their camp experience. Your presence will help create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for children to process their emotions and build lasting connections. This full-time Counselor will be with their kids for the entirety of the camp, with assistance from a part-time Counselor in the morning and a second in the afternoon. Preferred experience working with kids.
Part-Time Counselor (Available to IDN staff only, unless approached by IDN to assist): As a Camp Counselor, you will be a trusted companion to a small group of campers, providing support, comfort, and guidance throughout their camp experience. Your presence will help create a safe, nurturing, and fun environment for children to process their emotions and build lasting connections. This part-time Counselor will be assisting the full-time Counselor in the morning or afternoon. Preferred experience working with kids.
Activity Leader: Bring your creativity and enthusiasm to our kids' grief camp as an Activity Leader! In this role, you’ll lead engaging activities, such as crafts, animal interactions, gaga ball, or other hands-on experiences, designed to provide campers with a fun and therapeutic outlet. Your role is to create a welcoming and safe environment where children can explore, express themselves, and build connections with peers. By facilitating meaningful activities, you’ll play a vital part in helping campers navigate their grief journey while making lasting memories. Preferred experience working with kids. You are assigned to one or more activities to assist with and will be stationed in that area.
1:1 Camper Support: Help assist with kids who need additional help throughout the day.
Caregiver Support: Assist the caregiver program facilitator with any needs, be present for questions/needs of the caregivers, help guide people to the appropriate place for activities. Be present for the afternoon hours when the facilitated program has finished.
Counselor or Activity Support: Assist with volunteer and staff logistics by providing coverage for breaks, ensuring team members have time to rest, use the restroom, or step away as needed. This role helps maintain smooth operations by filling in where needed, monitoring shift transitions,
and offering general support to keep the event or workplace running efficiently.
Communications (IDN staff only): Send out time reminders and notifications to counselors, activity leaders and volunteers to notify of transition times and announcements.Vendor Liaison: Assist with external vendors supporting the camp such as the massage therapist, therapy dogs, etc.
