Part-Time Transportation Assistant

  • Position Overview:

    Responsible for transporting personnel, equipment and donors during the donation process.

  • Job Qualifications:

    High school diploma or GED equivalent. Valid driver’s license and safe driving record. COVID Vaccination required.

    24-hour on call

    Essential Job Functions and Performance Expectations:

    1. Transport organs, specimens, instruments and supplies that are needed during the donation process.
      1. Transport organs, specimens, instruments and supplies according to IDN policies and procedures.
    2. Transport donors to and from designated establishments and IDN facilities.
      1. Transport donors according to IDN policies and procedures.
    3. Transport IDN staff and transplant surgeons to various locations.
      1. Transport IDN staff and transplant surgeons as requested.


    Additional Job Functions:

    1. Assist in the maintenance of IDN vehicles.

    Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

    1. Respond to call/page within 10 minutes and arrive to office within one hour of call or as assigned.
    2. At peak times, may be called in to assist when not scheduled.
    3. Work on rotating on-call schedule with extended hours. Minimum of five (5) call days per month including four (4) weekend days per month.
    4. Lift equipment and supplies weighing up to 50 lbs.
    5. Assist with physical lifting of donors.
    6. Exposure to biohazardous materials such as blood, other body fluids, communicable diseases and formaldehyde. Universal precautions and use of personal protective equipment is required.
    7. Travel to the office and donor hospitals through the state of Iowa at any given hour of the day or night.
    8. Drive vehicle under various weather and physical conditions that may lead to visual and mental fatigue.
    9. Express ideas verbally and convey detailed or important spoken information.
    10. Receive detailed information through oral and auditory communication.

    Skills and Abilities:

    1. Maintain a current valid driver’s license and be insurable through IDN’s insurance.
    2. Skill and ability to effectively use computers and computer software including word processing, databases, spreadsheets, Internet tools, and electronic mail.
    3. Effectively communicate both verbally and in writing when representing IDN; work well with others; take and give direction; demonstrate effective problem-solving skills; ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
