"My life has been impacted by Donation since 1998. My husband received his first liver transplant from a young 28 year-old woman. I am so grateful to her and her family who gave my husband the gift of life. Our boys were 3, 8, and 10 years old. They had the opportunity to have their father as they grew up. In 2002 due to anti-rejection meds, my husband’s kidneys were failing. I knew donation had helped once, it could help again. I was tested and within several months I was able to donate a kidney to my husband. Something I have never regretted. I was selfish, I wanted normalcy back in our lives and to have my husband and my boys’ dad back. My life had been touched now twice with donation, I knew after eight years of subbing as a teacher in my local school district, I wanted to work for Iowa Donor Network. It has been the best decision I have ever made. I love working for this organization and the amazing families that so unselfishly give the gift of life to so many. Sadly, in the winter of 2015 we were once again involved in donation when my husband was once again listed. His liver was failing. Donation again saved his life and we are eternally grateful for the donor and the gift that he was given. No greater gift given than the gift of life!"
